Indian Head Massage
What is Indian Head Massage?
Although
Indian Head Massage has been used in this country for only 30 years
or so, it has been used in India for thousands of years. Originally
part of the ancient healing system of Ayurveda, as time went on it was
used by people, such as barbers, who were not necessarily trained in
Ayurveda, but nonetheless excellent at giving Indian Head Massage.
Nowadays, it is an important part of family life, used from babies to the elderly. It not only keeps hair shining and inhibits premature greying by stimulating the circulation of the scalp, but it also releases nervous and muscular tension, and most importantly keeps the family bond alive with touch of a warm and supportive nature.
An Indian gentleman by the name of Narendra Mehta came to England in 1973, having grown up in India where regular head massage was a way of life for him. He trained in body massage and osteopathy, but could find nobody to give him a good head massage, so he went back to India to learn how to do it himself! He returned to England having developed a system from the many techniques used to give Indian Head Massage. Mr Mehta has been blind since the age of one.
Generally speaking no two masseurs give the same Indian Head Massage. Most of them these days do not confine their work to just the head – they incorporate the upper back, shoulders, neck, arms and face too. This combines to make a deeply relaxing experience.
