The Healing Art of Reflexology

The feet
the mirror of the bodyIntroduction - reflexology
Reflexology is a simple, non-invasive treatment that facilitates the healing of the physical and emotional body, encouraging a feeling of well being. Pressure is applied to specific areas of the feet where all the internal body structures and organs are mapped or mirrored in miniature. By working over these reflexes in a precise way the reflexologist stimulates the body to restore and maintain equilibrium and encourage healing by maintaining a delicate balance between the nine systems (skeletal, muscular, vascular, neurological, respiratory, digestive, endocrine, urinary and reproductive).
Reflexology relieves stress and tension. Doctors are acknowledging that as much as 80% of diseases are caused by stress. Stress lowers immunity. While under stress we are all more susceptible to infections. Reflexology is an excellent relaxation therapy and therefore helps alleviate the symptoms of stress, thus reducing the detrimental effects on our health.
A Reflexology treatment helps the body as a whole, endeavouring to find the root of the ailment by locating imbalances within the body. As tension is eased pressure on the nerves and vessels are relaxed, thus improving the flow of blood/oxygen to all parts of the body.

What Will Happen When You Go For Treatment?
When you go for treatment there will be a preliminary consultation with the practitioner who will ask you questions relating to your general health, medical history and lifestyle. Then you will remove your socks and shoes, lie down and relax while the reflexologist begins work on your feet. For each person the application and effect of the therapy is unique. Tensions are eased and circulation and elimination are improved.
Treatments last about an hour. A number of sessions will probably be necessary as the benefits of Reflexology build up gradually. The total number of sessions and their frequency will depend on your body requirements and the reflexologist will discuss this with you.
Once your body is back in tune you may choose to continue occasional treatments to maintain your good health.
